The podium mirrors the density and height of the shophouses across Hong Lim Park, the raintrees of the park frame the podium and screen the blocks of guest rooms above, and the mass of the building is horizontally segmented by the great open verandah on the fifth floor and by the projecting shelves of the sky gardens above. Designed by WOHA, itself based in the city, its conception works off of a principle of the ‘ultimate green city’.
The scale of the architecture responds to the intricacies of the city: the height of the ubiquitous tree canopies, the size and orientation of the adjoining tower blocks, and the proportions of the historic streetscapes.

Interiors While the design of the park is undistinguished, its bounding street trees have magnificent canopies as high as the Parkroyal’s podium and easily coopted into the landscape of the pool terrace.
Only two rooms per floor look across the back of the building; the remainder enjoy views of the hotel’s own gardens or of the city to the north-west and south-east. Facade consultant WOHA’s “breathing architecture” manifesto is realized in a building that sustains its own ecosystem; dragonflies hover over the garden.
