The abstraction of 'Faust', the rhythmic cohesion of 'So Far' and the cut-and-paste heroics of 'The Faust Tapes' are here combined into a diverse collection of pieces and songs that encapsulate all that is special and unique about this most distinctive and innovative band. Producer/overseer Uwe Nettelbeck, a onetime music journalist, formed Faust in Wumme, Germany, in 1971 with founding members Hans Joachim Irmler (also one half of Cluster), Jean Hervé Peron, Werner "Zappi" Diermaier, Rudolf Sosna, Gunther Wusthoff, and Armulf Meifert. The Berlin Trilogy led me to Krautrock, so I bought 2 CDs: this and Neu! Just buy it! Like a lot of German albums of the decade it is almost criminally underrated but remains a must have for fans of experimental rock music. Proto-Shoegaze (Listen to "Krautrock" and tell me My Bloody Valentine didn't cop this style from our boys in Germany), psychotic pop songs, minimalist psychedelic....the album is a masterpiece from start to finish. After viewing product detail pages, look here to find an easy way to navigate back to pages you are interested in.After viewing product detail pages, look here to find an easy way to navigate back to pages you are interested in. "Just a Second (Starts Like That!)" Faust were a part of the genre known as Krautrock: progressive, avant-garde proto-electronica from Germany whose other proponents included Can, Neu! Faust IV is a music studio album recording by FAUST (Krautrock/Progressive Rock) released in 1973 on cd, lp / vinyl and/or cassette.
The pulsating bass drone, backed by eerily distant organ and guitar arpeggios, provides the perfect, glowing backdrop for lines like "Jennifer, your red hair is burning," but this song is a good example of how dissecting individual Faustian innards often yields much less than the whole-- it's the sum shine that matters. Faust IV is amazingly enhanced by the extra disc.
Faust IV is amazingly enhanced by the extra disc. It contains some of the best tracks I ever heard. 1973!!?/@! And I guess that's the lesson of Faust: Make the music you want to make, take the drugs you want to take, escape from the outside world when you can, and for god's sake, BE PRETTY/CATCHY/DISTURBING.Of course, before the album was done, things got messy: Nettelbeck stepped in to compile the record from Faust's sessions at the Manor (and previous ones in Wümme, Germany) without consulting the band, in turn prompting founding members Hans-Joachim Irmler and Rudolf Sosna to quit. Fans will know the Peel Session songs (the jazzy, sax-heavy "The Lurcher", a "Krautrock" remix and "Do So") from the Whaaaat! By 1974, categorization threatened to ruin the reception of their fourth LP-- long considered their "sell out" record by die-hard fans due to an alleged concession to more palatable songs and mixes-- but as the concept of pretty/catchy noise isn't necessarily as wtf now as it would have been then, the record's rep has mostly recouped.

75 (this being the best of the two). I was so happy that I had discovered the beginnings of shoegaze, then realized other people who like gaze and Faust have only said the same thing as me... Oh well, LOL.
This is the first Faust CD I bought, and I definately do not regret it. begins as a relatively conventional guitar jam, but soon devolves into electro-noise that reminds me of some of the space-tropical music on Hosono & Yokoo's So is "Läuft...Heißt Das Es Läuft Oder Es Kommt Bald...Läuft". Faust IV will send you on the road to discovering not just the rest of this bands catalogue but other gems from the explosion of kosmische music in Germany from the same period.Faust IV is a must hear/buy.
I hate the phrase "ahead of their time" as it is much overused, but in the case of this album, it is so perfectly applied, because this album truly is ahead of it's time.
Faust IV is a masterpiece.
