Dana Gioia is an internationally acclaimed poet and writer. Gioia's poetry has been set to music in many contemporary styles including classical, jazz, rock, opera, and country. Dana Gioia won the 2018 Poets’ Prize for 99 Poems: New & Selected, published in hardcover by Graywolf in 2016 and released in paperback in 2017.Gioia was honored at a ceremony held at the Nicholas Roerich Museum in New York City on Friday, May 18. Gioia has written several collections of criticisms. He retired early from his career as a corporate executive at General Foods to write full-time. Many of the writings were collected in the anthology Dana Gioia has won several prizes and received 11 honorary doctorates. A graduate of Stanford Business School, Gioia claims to be “the only person, in history, who went to business school to be a poet.” He later rose to become a vice president at General Foods, where he marketed products such as Kool-Aid.
